The People in Places Show
In 2024, ad film director Karan Shetty and I created 'The People in Places Show', a video series that lies at the intersection of place and art. We explore the relationship between art and the places that inspire it, how places shape individuals and the ways in which various art forms incorporate the urban experience.
In Episode 2, we explore Mumbai through the eyes of adman, theatrewala, filmmaker and columnist Rahul DaCunha. Rahul recollects hiring a young Vicky Kaushal for his theatre company, and shares memories of The Police (music band) performing at the Rangbhavan in 1980. He discusses working on Amul’s legendary topicals, co-directing his first feature film Pune Highway, and his columns on life in the city, cricket, movies and more for Sunday Mid-Day.
This episode is as much about Mumbai as a muse as it is about capturing the city’s unique motivations, anxieties and aspirations through art.
For Episode 1, we travelled to Mangalore to meet Kannada film actor, writer and director Raj B Shetty to discuss influences, Kannada cinema history, how Shetty has put the people, rhythm and geography of Mangalore on screen through his films, and more.
